NYTE Convenes 2nd Indie Theater Convocation

On July 12, 2008 NYTE convened the 2nd Indie Theater Convocation at the Barrow Street Theatre. Photo at left shows the stage set for the theatre's current production and our meeting. Thanks to the generosity of Scott Morfee, NYTE was able to have the perfect setting for a fantastic turnout of Indie Theater artists and companies (plus supporters and friends).
Some highlights of the convocation included the
introduction of the new League of Independent Theater and a discussion led by its Executive Director, John Clancy (see photo at right). The League was a direct outcome of the 1st Ever Indie Theater Convocation held in April 2006.
Also noted were other instances of new ideas that have already come to fruition which included the masses of data and features on the indietheater.org website and the successful podcasts of indie artists ready for download on nyteathecast.com. Photo at left is Martin in front of the entire roster of 527 indie theater artists who have appeared on these podcasts.
Many new ideas and thoughts were discussed as the Convocation
came to an end. These will be posted on nytheatre i and on indietheater.org as they are implemented. If you are interested in being kept abreast of new developments, please send an email to: comments@indietheater.org and we will place you on our mailing list. Any thoughts you might have about this topic are welcome and you are urged to send them to this same email address. Photo at right shows the mobs of people waiting to speak with Martin as the Convocation ended.
The Welcoming speech by Rochelle Denton, Managing Director of NYTE can be found here and Executive Director, Martin Denton's presentation is here. After the Convocation many attendees posted comments on nytheatre i. Check them out here.

NYTE is funded, in part, by the New York State Council on the Arts and the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs
